The Monkey's Whiskers

The canvas with the first coat of color
The finished painting and the book.
When my daughter was a little girl we found this book called "The Monkey's Whiskers" at one of our thrift store outings. It soon became one of her favorite books and we would read it often. It's an adapted Brazilian folk tale about a crazy monkey, who demands the barber shave off his whiskers, then unhappy with the way he looks demands they be put back on. Before the barber can put them back he goes around the village causing trouble until the barber gets good idea on how to get rid of the monkey. It has fun illustrations and is very entertaining.
We still have the book, it's tattered and worn and still holds a special place in my daughters heart at age 22. I decided to do a painting of the cover for her as a gift. She was happy with the end result and I was very happy she liked it.

Pet Portraits, ScottieInspired

I think this is a great shop (ScottieInspired ),  he will do a digital portrait send it to you  via e-mail and you can print it out in 3 difrent sizies. I'm hoping to get my dogs protraits done, then printed on canvas.

Getting stuff done....

Made this out of an embroidery hoop , some cool burlap with a vintage key print on it, inkjet fabric transfer, lace, a little black paint, hot glue and a few small screws.
Memento mori is a Latin phrase translated as "Remember your mortality", "Remember you must die" or "Remember you will die".[2] It refers to a genre of artworks that vary widely but which all share the same purpose: to remind people of their mortality, an artistic theme dating back to antiquity.

Also made the little round key decorations on the end.

Been off the grid for a while, as usual time seems to be flying by. Been on somewhat of a break trying to get some home improvement stuff done around the house. I started with painting my living room it was a deep red and I wanted to lighten up the room so I painted it orange. It’s a lot brighter than the red and I do like the finished look. I was on a roll after painting the living room then….. I caught some awful chest cold. I’m finally starting to feel better but its taking forever to go away. It’s going on the third week now and driving me crazy! As soon as I feel better I will attack the kitchen painting. Also going to change the light fixtures in the kitchen dining area. I’m hoping it will all go smoothly.

Also will be getting rid of more clutter in my work and supply storage area. Might make some last chance creations or make a donation trip to Goodwill. I’m trying to focus on more painting and mixed media art. Although I cant resist making little stuffed monsters and such. I’m hoping to get into the farmers market this summer. It’s always good to have a variety of things for people to choose from. If not then I will just fill my etsy shops. ;-)

Monsters at market

The purple guy and the green, yellow and red guy are a recent creation that sold last week at the Farmers Market. I only got to go to a few markets this season but I'm hoping next season to have a booth there at least every onther week.  That was my goal this past season but with all the shake up's that went on with the growers market staff, I was not able to.  We shall see how it goes...
